As one of the party capitals of Europe, the Spanish Balearic Island of Majorca (often known as Mallorca) is favoured for its sunny climate, its beautiful beaches, and its picturesque towns and resorts.  Although it is known as being a resort destination where holidays are focused on sun, sand and relaxation, Majorca has much more to offer than your typical package vacation.  Bellver Castle near Palma de Mallorca is well worth a visit, as is the La Seu Cathedral in Palma de Mallorca and the mountainous region of Serra de Tramuntana.  The Dragon Caves, the villages of Valldemossa and Soller, and the party town of Playa de Palma are other popular spots.

Majorca is an incredibly easy island to get to, with regular ferry and air connections.  Palma de Mallorca, the island's capital, receives ferry services from Barcelona, Denia, Eivissa, Valencia and Mahon.  On the north-east side of the island, the town of Alcudia has ferry connections to Barcelona and Ciutadella.  Private water-craft and cruise ships also dock at the islands ports and marinas.  The most common way to get to the island is by plane, and Son Sant Joan Airport (Aeropuerto de  Palma de Mallorca) is one of the busiest in Europe for this reason.  Seeing over twenty-five million passengers annually, the airport is visited by airlines such as airBerlin, bmi, easyJet, Futura, British Airways, Ryanair and Thomas Cook Airways.  Although the airport is located in close proximity to the capital, many of the resorts are further afield, and for this reason car hire is recommended. Sixt, CarJet, Auto Europe, Amigo Autos and Mallorca Cars are amongst the rental companies located on the island.
